How this machine transformed our capability overnight
Recently, we parted ways with our Tormach PCNC 1100 and progressed to a completely new machine that will dramatically increase our CNC machining capability: the new Tormach 1500MX. This video gets into the details behind this machine, how it's already helping us make parts for the DarkAero 1 prototype, and how it will carry us into making production parts for kits.

The biggest myth about split flaps
Просмотров 144 тыс.6 месяцев назад
Check out Xometry at www.xometry.com/darkaero In this video, we dive into the details behind the decision to use a split flap design over other common options like the plain flap and how the mechanism for the flap system on the DarkAero 1 works. We also address some misconceptions that surround split flap designs, specifically around the drag they produce when deployed. Additional resources on ...

Try Onshape for free! onshape.pro/darkaero In this video, we dive into the flight controls for the DarkAero 1 and some of the recent work we’ve been doing to refine the control system before flight testing. We discuss the split rudder design, how we packaged the controls into a small airframe, and the interesting material we used to counterbalance the ailerons and elevators. DarkAero Courses: d...
Puller vs Pusher Aircraft - Which is More Efficient?
Просмотров 249 тыс.9 месяцев назад
Check out Xometry at www.xometry.com/darkaero The DarkAero 1 is engineered to fly fast while maintaining high efficiency, and we located the propeller at the front of the airplane even though it has long been theorized that placing the prop at the back so it pushes would be better for speed and efficiency. So why is our propeller at the front? Would the DarkAero 1 actually be better with the pr...
The Truth About Carbon Fiber: Myths vs. Reality
Просмотров 93 тыс.10 месяцев назад
Learn more about DarkAero Courses here: darkaero.com/courses This video is about carbon fiber and some of the myths surrounding this material. We used carbon fiber extensively in the DarkAero 1, and its material properties are part of what allows us to achieve our design goals for the aircraft. Carbon fiber can be complicated to design and work with, so it’s understandable that there are some m...

Try Onshape for free! onshape.pro/darkaero The DarkAero 1 fuel sump was recently tested, and it did not perform as expected. The testing revealed a leak, which led to a redesign of the sump to fix the leak but also improve it overall. Let's take a look at the engineering process of redesigning this key piece of hardware. If you've wanted to learn how to create your own molds and high quality co...

It doesn't matter which way is more efficient when you're stranded at a remote airport because your prop is damaged from f.o.d. You should get a refund on whatever degree you have. It obviously didn't take.

The induced drag does NOT depend on the aspect ratio, common missunderstanding: forget induced drag coefficiend and write the direct equation: Dind = (L/span)² / ½ rho V² That is what your own graph shows BTW : the weak effect of Aspect ratio is to reduce chord, affecting parasite drag only Remembering that Asprect ratio is span²/S substitute the CD and AR do the algebra! Than you get what I wrote

Hi I am very interested in your project DarkAero I just love how affordable it is and the range of the aircraft would you say this is a good beginner friendly aircraft I just can’t wait for the plane to be ready for its first journey through the skies and into everybody harts finally. Will the plane ever get a rocket propelled parachute system. Or BRS Aerospace: Whole Aircraft Rescovery Parachute Systems or does it already have one

i a, always astonished how an airplane designer lacks in actual knowledge in his area...or simply plays with his clientel thinking they are ignorant...sorry...but all that was very oversimplyfied and ...partially flawed...and incomplete....and i still wonder why there were no wingtanks in the whole vid...did i click on the weonh one?

Such a waste of time to spray two coats of primer, then spray two more coats. Just lay down 3 or 4 coats. Grab a long block soft. Slap some 320 on it give it a quick once over, DA 400. Seal, base, clear.

Juan Brown just mentioned on his latest video about the Lockheed at Chino that split flaps create drag and no lift. At least that's what I remember him saying.

  • @nathansymborski9268

Hey Dark Aero - I have a question about your carbon fiber frame. You are aware of the effects of lightning on carbon fiber and how it can shatter the material, hence why the Boeing 787 engineers layered a lightning absorbing material on the airframe over the carbon fiber composite material they used for that jet. I’m not sure if you intend on making this aircraft IFR rated or if it should not be flown if chances of lightning remain anywhere among one of its flight paths. If you DO plan on making this plane IFR rated, how do you guys plan on dealing with the lightning problem?

Real engineers would create a rotating holding fixture. That way one person can rotate the entire assembly without fear of damage.
